As part of the worldwide ‘Transition Movement’, volunteer-run Transition Town Romsey (TTR) was formed in 2009 to address the twin issues of peak oil and climate change.  Over the years, the approach has changed from one of helping to increase awareness of these two issues, to suggesting ways that local people can personally help combat climate change.

In recent years, this has included:

  • encouraging people to grow their own food - with the provision of a community allotment and a community orchard, and holding an Allotment Open Day & Plant Sale,
  • tackling food waste by holding apple-pressing days to use up surplus/waste fruit,
  • holding information days about green issues including cars and green energy,
  • setting up a community energy company,
  • providing information stands at local events, and
  • using art displays involving local organisations to reach different audiences.
