National Trust - Mottisfont Abbey

The National Trust promotes and looks after places of historic beauty permanently for the benefit of the nation across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Our core purpose is to look after special places for ever, for everyone. The National Trust is an independent charity and received no direct funding from the Government. Mottisfont, set in glorious grounds alongside the fast-flowing River Test has many layers of history for the visitor to explore, including the Gothic remains of the original 13-century Augustinian Priory. The house and gardens now are a tribute to the mid-20th century society hostess and patron of the arts Maud Russell, who used the Abbey as a weekend retreat. The walled gardens are famous for the National Collection of old-fashioned roses.
