Breakout Youth Charity is seeking committed and compassionate volunteers to support the delivery of youth groups for LGBTQ+ and questioning young people aged 11–25. This is a meaningful role supporting young people to feel safe, valued, and empowered to be themselves.

About the Role

As a Breakout Youth Volunteer, you will assist in the delivery and running of youth groups across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Working alongside experienced youth workers, you will help create welcoming, inclusive spaces where young people can build confidence, self-esteem, and peer support.

You will:

  • Greet young people and help them feel welcome and comfortable
  • Engage with young people in a supportive, educative, and non-judgemental way

  • Help plan and facilitate fun and informative sessions

  • Support the design of sessions that can be used across Breakout youth groups

  • Take part in handovers, wash-ups, and supervision sessions

  • Work as part of a team and raise any concerns with paid staff

  • Follow safeguarding, confidentiality, and organisational policies

There may also be opportunities (if you feel comfortable and available) to assist with delivering anti-homophobic and transphobic education in schools and colleges.

Skills & Experience Needed

  • A genuine interest in supporting LGBTQ+ or questioning young people

  • A welcoming, non-judgemental attitude

  • Good communication skills

  • Ability to work well as part of a team

  • Willingness to listen, learn, and reflect

  • Confidence to support difficult conversations

  • Emotional resilience and strong professional boundaries

Requirements

  • Commitment to a minimum of 2 youth group sessions per month

  • Ability to volunteer for 3 hours per session

  • Willingness to complete mandatory training

  • A DBS (criminal record) check

  • Provision of two references

Support Offered

  • Full induction process

  • Mandatory training (including Safeguarding and Risk)

  • Ongoing training and annual refreshers

  • Regular one-to-one supervision with a mentor

  • Access to brief clinical supervision when required

  • Ongoing support from Breakout Youth and No Limits staff
