Role Summary
The Volunteering Development Officer is responsible for the strategic growth, support, and management of volunteer programs within the organisation. The role ensures that volunteering opportunities are accessible, rewarding, and impactful for both the volunteers and the community they serve. This role also focuses on developing and supporting corporate volunteering opportunities to strengthen community engagement.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a volunteering strategy aligned with the organisation's mission and objectives.
- Support volunteers to ensure they have a positive and meaningful experience.
- Develop policies and procedures to support volunteer engagement, retention, and recognition.
- Coordinate volunteer placements, ensuring a match between volunteers’ skills and organisational needs.
- Work closely with internal teams to integrate volunteering into the wider organisational framework.
- Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including community groups, partner organisations, and funding bodies.
- Work in partnership with community volunteer organisations to meet their volunteering needs.
- Develop and promote corporate volunteering initiatives, facilitating meaningful engagement between businesses and community projects.
- Liaise with community and volunteering partners to identify opportunities for employee volunteering and ensure successful program implementation.
- Monitor and evaluate volunteer programs, providing reports and recommendations for improvement.
- Organise volunteer appreciation events and initiatives to recognise contributions.
- Ensure compliance with safeguarding, health & safety, and other relevant policies and regulations.
Essential Skills/Experience
- Experience in volunteer management, community engagement, or a related field.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and inspire volunteers.
- Ability to develop and implement policies, procedures, and strategies.
- Strong organisational and administrative skills, with attention to detail.
- Experience in delivering training and workshops.
- Competence in using volunteer management systems and IT tools.
- A proactive and collaborative approach to working within a team.
- Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
- Experience in developing corporate partnerships and engaging businesses in volunteering initiatives.
- Full UK Driving Licence
Desirable Skills / Experience
- Knowledge of funding and grant opportunities for volunteer programs.
- Experience in marketing and promoting volunteer opportunities.
- Understanding of safeguarding practices related to volunteers.
- Ability to work flexibly, including occasional evenings or weekends as and when required.
