Portage Volunteers Havant – support for children with SEND and their families

April 30, 2019

Portage Volunteers will support preschool aged children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and their families in their home and at parent support groups.

Working as part of a highly skilled team providing positive outcomes for children and families you will find this area of work hugely rewarding. Opportunities to develop skills, a carefully designed induction and supervision will be provided.
The aim of the Portage Volunteer pilot is to reduce the waiting time for families referred to the Hampshire Portage service. Successful volunteers will undertake the Portage workshop and undertake an induction program including any relevant training.
This role will require flexibility. Support to families might be at the family home to support children’s educational development, accompany parents to partner run services (such as those delivered by children’s centres) or signpost to other agencies/services as appropriate
to the needs of the children and families.
Hampshire County Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all employees, workers and volunteers to share this commitment. We will ensure that all our recruitment and selection practices reflect this commitment.
