On a warm Saturday 30th April, residents dropped-in at King Arthurs Way Community Hall in Andover to take part in a ‘Meet & Grow’ event.
On a sun-filled afternoon, local residents came to plant up their own strawberry, sunflower and tomato plants and to share a cup of tea and a biscuit. They also had the opportunity to learn about and chat to representatives of a range of local organisations including Rooting for Mind, Andover Trees, Andover Mind, RCS, Unity, Men’s Shed, Solutions for Health and Andover PCN.
The community event was hosted by Test Valley Borough Council and Hampshire, Southampton and isle of Wight Clinical Commissioning Group and Rooting for Andover in partnership with local organisations as part of the Healthier Communities Project. The aim of the event was to promote an enjoyment of nature, good mental health, being more active and healthy eating.
Residents, who came from a whole range of age groups, were very positive about the event and took away their plants – which, with any luck, will provide them with colour and fruit over the coming weeks and hopefully will have planted some seeds of inspiration for residents to grow their own in the future.
Other events are on the horizon, in Andover include another ‘Meet and Grow’ event on the 14th of May at St Pauls Church ,Roman Way 1:30 to 3:30pm and the Platinum Jubilee Big Craft make on Monday 30th May, at King Arthurs way Hall.
