Unity staff were on hand to welcome Ukrainians and their sponsors at the first Romsey Ukrainian Support and Social Drop In, held between 9am and 12noon on Wednesday 22nd June at Romsey Town Hall.
A representative from the NHS Social prescribers, and a Community Pharmacist were also present. Information around how to register a birth in this country, relevant benefits information, and general support and social media information was provided as well as links to other Ukrainian support hubs locally.
Teas and coffee were supplied enabling the attendees to sit, chat and swap information amongst themselves.
Staff attending reported, “We were delighted with the turnout, and it gave us a better insight into how the families and individuals were managing and receiving relevant support. We devised a basic checklist of questions, which would have highlighted any gaps in support being received. The best part was hearing the conversations over coffee, and giving them the time to meet and chat with their fellow countrymen”.
If you would like to come along and socialise, find out more information about the local community, access NHS social prescribers or simply ask a question or two, the next Romsey Ukrainian Support Drop In Hub will be on Wednesday 6th July, Town Hall, 9am to 12 noon, and fortnightly going forward.
Unity may also provide transport to help Ukrainians who may be more isolated in rural village locations, to come along to the Support Drop In Hub too subject to vehicle availability. For further information on this service please contact Unity Transport on 0330 4004 116.
