DESCRIPTION:An EGG-cellent packed programme of school holiday fun lies in store at the Army Flying Museum at Middle Wallop in Hampshire this Easter. \nFollowing on from unprecedented numbers at February half-term\, the Easter holidays have lots in store for visitors throughout the Easter break\, including an Easter Egg hunt which will run from Good Friday to Easter Monday. \nPopular model making sessions are also back on Tuesday 8 and Sunday 13 April and the Museum’s new regular holiday attraction\, will enable visitors to walk around an Apache Helicopter with use of their special VR headsets on Thursday 10 April.  Free craft activities run daily from 10-1230 and children also have the opportunity to take part in a special Easter trail running throughout the holidays. \nTwo special events finish the packed programme with visitors encouraged to get their hands dirty on Wednesday 9 April with the team from Spaces for Growing and make their very own wild-flower seed bombs to take home and use in their gardens. To end the Easter holidays\, the Museum will be getting a very special visit from Crazy Creatures on Thursday 17 April who will be bringing a few of their reptiles\, invertebrates and amphibians along to the Museum for visitors to see. \nDuring Easter weekend\, be on the look out for a golden egg which will be hidden in the Museum each day\, giving visitors the chance to win a family ticket to a local attraction. \nAlong with all the interactives\, dressing up and play areas at the Museum\, there is plenty to keep everyone busy and all activities throughout the holidays\, excluding the Easter Egg Hunt\, are included in ticket price which also comes with a free annual pass offered by the Museum. \nLucy Johnson\, CEO of the Army Flying Museum said: “We were thrilled to see so many new and returning visitors at half term participating in the wide range of activities we now offer at all the school holidays.  We are very excited about our Easter programme and so pleased that we are continuing to provide so many additional activities as part of the general ticket income\, giving families excellent value for money”. \nEveryone that visits the Museum only needs to pay once to receive a free annual pass and this has proved an extremely popular incentive to residents around Hampshire and Wiltshire who have seen increased value for their passes over the last two years\, with a significant increase in the number of activities being offered by the Museum. \nDue to large numbers of visitors during the school holidays\, the Museum encourages visitors and annual pass holders to book online in advance for their visits to avoid disappointment.

SUMMARY:New riverside park draft designs
DESCRIPTION:The draft designs for Andover’s spectacular new riverside park at Western Avenue have been published. \nSince adopting the masterplan\, Test Valley Borough Council has been working with a team of renowned landscape\, highways\, and ecological specialists\, to deliver on the community’s aspirations for more green space in the town centre. The new park will open up new views of the River Anton\, which is currently hidden by the large expanse of tarmac along Western Avenue. \nBy changing the road layout and creating a space for inviting landscapes and accessible pathways along the river\, the changes will help to foster a seamless connection between the western side of the town\, the river\, Town Mills park and the new The Lights theatre. \nAnd by weaving past with present\, the riverside park’s beautifully crafted designs grant a glimpse into the area’s rich history\, which was once used for growing watercress. \nThere will be spaces for events and food and coffee stalls\, fostering community interaction and celebration. A path will meander through the site dotted with seating\, welcoming people to rest and reflect. There will also be innovative play elements to enjoy and inspire\, providing opportunities for recreation and discovery. All while showcasing the town’s picturesque watercourse\, which will be extended and enriched with new planting\, creating thriving habitats and enhancing the new park’s natural beauty. \nThe proposals are now available to view at www.thinkandovertowncentre.co.uk and you can share your thoughts on the draft designs by emailing thinkandover@testvalleygov.uk \nThe project team will also be on hand in the former O2 unit in the Chantry Centre to talk about the plans and answer questions on: \n\nThursday 27 March – 2pm to 7pm\nSaturday 29 March – 10am to 1pm.\n\nThe news comes hot on the heels of the release of the designs for the new The Lights theatre\, which is set to relocate to the old Poundstretcher unit in the heart of the town centre. \nLeader of the council\, Cllr Phil North said: “This is an incredibly exciting time for everyone involved in these projects as we share draft plans and designs with residents\, following a huge amount of hard work behind the scenes.” \n“The people of Andover told us that they wanted us to make more of the river\, as it is such a wonderful asset that is largely hidden from view. Town centres are changing\, they are fast becoming places for leisure and living as well as just retail and the opportunity to create more green space for people to relax\, play and socialise\, while remaining connected to the heart of the town\, gives us the chance to create something truly special that will breathe new life into Andover.” \nThe highways scheme is a joint project by Test Valley Borough Council and Hampshire County Council in their capacity as the highway authority and they have worked closely on the new road layout. Western Avenue is currently an oversized road that acts as a barrier to the town centre and the extensive traffic modelling shows that the new road layout can accommodate the traffic travelling through the area. \nThe designs have been shared ahead of the council submitting a planning application for the new park and highway changes later this spring. Residents will be able to have their say on the finer design details for the park following the planning process. \nThis project is part funded from the regeneration funds of £18.3m awarded to Test Valley Borough Council by the UK Government.

DESCRIPTION:In the 1950s\, Andover was approached to become an ‘overspill’ town for London. Whether apparent or not at the time\, this decision to accept the agreement would radically change the look and feel of Andover forever. \nA new exhibition at Andover Museum entitled Andover: An Overspill Story\, shines a light on the lives of those who left London for Andover in search of a better life as part of the ‘overspill’. It features stories at the heart of this emotive time in the town’s history as well as audio clips from residents who describe their experiences in their own words. \nThis exhibition has been curated as part of a Wessex Film and Sound Archive (WFSA) project that was created with the support of the British Film Institute (BFI) awarding funds from the National Lottery to help develop WFSA collections. It would also not have been possible without the financial support of Andover History and Archaeology Society (AHAS)\, Hampshire Archives Trust (HAT)\, and Test Valley Arts Foundation (TVAF). \nAndover: An Overspill Story is on display in Andover Museum from Friday 14 March to Sunday 27 April 2025.
