DESCRIPTION:Andover Chamber Choir Presents 'Voices from the Manger' \n  \nAndover Chamber Choir celebrates the festive season with their Christmas concert\, 'Voices from the Manger'\, a beautiful journey through the Nativity story told in words and music. \n  \nUnder direction of their new Musical Director\, Lucy Hole\, the Chamber Choir presents a programme of evocative carols and seasonal pieces\, bringing to life the various perspectives of those witnessing the birth of Christ. The music is complemented by seasonal readings\, including poetry by Christina Rossetti and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow\, which further explore the different aspects of the Christmas narrative. \n  \nThe musical journey starts by celebrating the sheer joy of the birth with favourites like Ralph Vaughan Williams's This is the truth sent from above and David Willcocks's arrangement of Unto us is born a son. The programme then turns its attention to the voices of the magi and the shepherds\, featuring pieces such as Francis Poulenc’s Videntes Stellam and Peter Warlock’s haunting Bethlehem Down. \n  \nThe second half of the concert focuses on Mary and Joseph\, with themes of light and peace\, including Philip Stopford's Lully lulla lullay and Martin Shaw’s arrangement of The Cherry Tree Carol\, before centering in on the serene heart of the Christmas story and concluding with a rousing celebration of well-loved carols for all. \n  \nWith such a wealth of musical material that surrounds the Christmas story\, this concert is presented to highlight the different characters and emotions of the Nativity. A wide range of styles aims to enrich the atmospheric celebration\, with beautiful\, ancient pieces by composers like Praetorius and Scheidt interweaved with more contemporary works\, such as Bob Chilcott's The shepherd's carol and Ola Gjeilo’s stunning Spotless Rose. \n  \nThe concert takes place at 7.00pm\, Saturday 20th December\, St Mary’s Church\, Andover. Tickets are £18 on the door or £15 in advance from The Lights (in person and online) or through choir members. Under 16s are admitted free.  Refreshments are included. \n  \nProceeds are in aid of Andover Food Bank\, providing essential support to local individuals and families in crisis this winter. \n

DESCRIPTION:The next Ampfield Market will take place on December 6th 2025 between 10 - 12 noon.  This will be our special Christmas event with a visit from Father Christmas and a sparkling annual raffle in aid of charity. \nThe Ampfield Market (Est. 2000)\n \nThe Market is always held on the first Saturday of the month excluding January and August which are holiday months. It takes place in Ampfield Village Hall (SO51 9BJ)\, between 10am and 12 noon. Parking and admission are free.\nThe Market has become a very popular meeting place\, offering the best value\, most delicious refreshments in Hampshire!   Every effort is made to keep the sales tables lively and interesting.  There are top quality\, locally sourced items for sale including cakes\, biscuits\, savoury foods\, honey\, fresh bread\, eggs\, plants\, fruit and veg\, crafts\, books\,  cards\, wrapping paper\, jewellery and collectables. We order our fruit and veg from Hansards a very reputable local supplier and we endeavour to sell a good variety of fresh\, seasonal produce every month. We are delighted that Matt's Bakery in Chandlers Ford is now supplying our bread each month. The Market generates almost £3000 a year towards Village Hall funds.  The Market team generously volunteer their time and baking skills to provide a delicious seasonal selection of cakes every month\, which are served with coffee and tea throughout the morning. \nFuture Market Dates - February 7th\, March 7th\, April 4th and May 2nd 2026 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIf you would like to rent a table in the future or would just like more general information\, then please contact Julie Trotter via;  julie@ampfield.org.uk
