SUMMARY:Andover Armed Forces Day 2025
DESCRIPTION:Andover Armed Forces Day will return this year\, honouring the UK's military personnel. \nThe event\, which will take place from noon to 6pm\, will be held at Vigo Park\, in Andover\, on Saturday\, June 28. \nVisitors can expect a historical tribute\, including flypasts from the Joint Helicopter Command. \nThe Historic Army Air Flight\, featuring seven historic planes and helicopters\, could also make an appearance. \nREAD MORE: PICTURES: Andover celebrates Armed Forces Day with huge event \nThe main stage and arena will host military bands\, local dance groups and choirs\, while face painting\, a fun fair and food vendors will keep families entertained. \nLocal businesses and military organisations will set up stalls\, and local groups will run sports activities for youngsters. \nA special commemorative programme will mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day this year. \nThis will include a 64-page booklet featuring historical insights into the regiments and forces involved in VE Day. \nA number of distinguished guests\, including representatives from the Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire's office\, local MPs\, the Mayor of Test Valley and the Mayor of Andover\, have been invited to attend. \nLocal schools\, cadet groups\, and community organisations have also been encouraged to participate. \nThe chairman of Andover Armed Forces Day\, Richard Rowles\, said: "Andover Armed Forces Day is a fantastic opportunity to show our appreciation for the Armed Forces community. \n"This year’s event will not only celebrate their service\, but also honour the 80th anniversary of VE Day with a meaningful historical tribute. \n"We encourage everyone to join us for a fun-filled and commemorative day at Vigo Park." \nFor those interested in further information\, updates\, or getting involved\, contact Mandi Martin at mandi@andoverarmedforcesday.org.uk.

Those who would like to promenade in their Regency dress are welcome to. \nTo mark the conclusion of our collaborative project with Jane Austen’s House and the 250th year since the birth of Jane Austen\, this event will celebrate the cultural activity of Regency England. As you pose for your personalised silhouette\, learn about Jane Austen’s House\, and the behind-the-scenes of our critically endangered Silk Ribbon Weaving. This prized picnic will also showcase our ‘Bridgerton’ inspired ribbons\, where you can get an exclusive look. \nJoining us will be our very own silk ribbon weavers\, Silhouette Sarah\, Jane Austen’s House and Laughing with Lizzie. \nEnjoy a day filled with Regency activities and a scrumptious picnic afternoon tea. Ticket includes: \n\nA drink on arrival\nPicnic in the grounds\nAdmission to the Mill\nRibbons to Riches exhibition.\nSilhouette portrait per guest by Silhouette Sarah\nThe first chance to view and purchase our ‘Bridgerton’ inspired silk ribbons.\nTable top exhibition and talks from Jane Austen’s House at 4 & 6pm\nSophie Andrews of Laughing with Lizzie\, Author and Jane Austen specialist\nMake and take embroidery workshop with Abigail Rose Creative\nA chance to learn about some of the endangered crafts still practiced today that were popular in Regency England.\nWeaving activity drop in\nLacemaking demonstrations and have a go pillow\nCritically endangered craft\, corn dolly making\nFlower crown demonstrations\nChance to witness silk ribbon weaving\nPhotographs on Frog Island\nA chance to shop with Farthingale Historical Hats\n\nSilhouettists are extremely rare with only a few now practicing world wide. Silhouette Sarah has over 20 years experience in this rare-art form so be prepared to be wowed as you watch her in action. \nLikewise\, Silk Ribbon Weaving was listed as a critically endangered craft in 2023 and added to the Red List with Heritage Craft Association. At the time\, there were just four silk ribbon weavers remaining in the UK\, with the Mill employing one of them. \nDuring 2024\, Whitchurch Silk Mill wove a beautiful collection of Special Edition silk ribbons in a creative collaboration project with Jane Austen’s House\, breathing new life into this craft. \nThis is an outdoor event but a capri tent will be on the front lawn in case of wet weather. Prebooking is essential\, no tickets will be available on the door.  \nThis event is part of a program of events to celebrate 250 years since the birth of Jane Austen.
