Members of Greenbuttercup CIC are delighted to announce that, in September, they will be re-starting their ‘Dementia Services’ in the Green Room at the Plaza Theatre, Romsey. The Green Room is an accessible, COVID-secure venue. Parking is available behind the theatre in the non-numbered spaces, and entry is by the side entrance via the ramp.
All volunteers are Dementia Friends and in order to keep everyone as safe as possible, Greenbuttercup CIC will continue to adhere to some COVID-19 precautions for these sessions. For example, we will sit at socially distant tables, and if equipment/materials are needed, everyone will have their own individual set – so there is no sharing. There will also be a limit on how many people we have in the room, so participants will need to book a place. We ask that people wear masks to enter the building, but they can be removed once sitting down. If the COVID situation changes again, we will observe all government COVID-guidelines necessary. The aim is to make these sessions as welcoming and safe as possible.
On the first Friday of the month, they will be holding a fun ‘Arts & Crafts’ session from 10.30 a.m. – 12.30 p.m. for anyone living with Dementia and their relative/carer. No experience is necessary, and each month we will have a different activity to try – with something suitable for all abilities. There is a charge of £3.00 per person, which covers all art materials, instruction, and tea/coffee with biscuits.
If you are unsure as to whether ‘Arts & Crafts’ is for you, why not come along and have a go – the first session is free.
On the third Friday of the month, they will be holding a series of themed reminiscence sessions – again from 10.30 a.m. – 12.30 p.m. for anyone living with Dementia and their relative/carer. Pre-pandemic they ran monthly multi-sensory sessions, but as this involved a lot of handling objects and passing things around, they needed to modify the format, to avoid any sharing. They will, therefore, run a monthly themed ‘Reminiscence Activity Group’ which will incorporate sensory work where possible. These sessions will be a mix of reminiscence, games and an activity or talk. There will be something suitable for all abilities and stages of Dementia. There will be a charge of £3.00 per person, which covers all activities, and tea/coffee with biscuits.
The following sessions will be held in September:
- Friday, September 3rd, 2021 ‘Arts & Crafts’ – ‘Papercraft’
Have a go at making straws out of coloured paper, and then use them to decorate a container.
- Friday, September 17th, 2021 ‘Reminiscence Activity Group’ – ‘Cakes & Bakes’
Reminisce about your favourite cakes & biscuits and sample some with your cuppa. Then have a go at decorating a cupcake with Kerry Harris from Sapphire Sugarcraft.
