Andover based contemporary arts organisation Chapel Arts Studios (CAS) are excited to announce the appointment of Kay May as Chair, Board of Trustees, Susanne Hasselmann as Executive Director, Sophie Lawrence as Communications and Impact Manager and Lou Sutterby as Administrator. They will be joining the existing team as part of an ambitious plan for growing the visual arts in Andover and wider Hampshire.
CAS is a socially engaged, contemporary visual arts organisation, which exists to support and develop artists, deliver creative education and engage the community in exploring and experiencing visual arts and creativity in all its forms.
David Dixon, Creative and Education Director at CAS states: ‘’With Susanne, Sophie and Lou joining us, we can grow more rapidly and engage with a wider community, both on and off-line, create more opportunities for artists, support a greater breadth of contemporary art and creativity and become increasingly inclusive, sustainable and diverse as an organisation. Kay May – Chair, Board of Trustees
Kay is delighted to represent Chapel Arts Studios as Chair, having watched its success since its inception. Kay retired recently from Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton, where, as Director of External Affairs, she led the development and maintenance of the School’s vital relationships with industry, public bodies, schools and colleges. Before joining the School in 2005, Kay’s wide-ranging business career included publishing and literary agency, insurance, recruitment and legal practice management. Kay graduated with a BA in Graphic Arts (Photography and Digital Media) and an MPhil in Fine Art Photography. She now lives in West Sussex.
Susanne Hasselmann – Executive Director
Susanne has a background in business, commercial management and strategy. She has run a number of businesses including membership organisations and not-for-profits. She has a wealth of leadership experience, is passionate about community engagement and has an extensive network of contacts around Andover and beyond. She keeps us on our toes and occasionally bakes some cookies. She lives just outside Andover with her sons.
Sophie Lawrence – Communications and Impact Manager
Sophie has a background working at marketing and design agencies and lives in Southampton. She has always wanted to work for an NPO and is chuffed to be at CAS and at such a time of change and growth, working in such a creative environment. She loves to write, design and make connections. Her next project is to work with Susanne to give our website a big refresh – Watch this space!
Lou Sutterby – Administrator
Lou, our administrator extraordinaire, has kept us in line since starting in May, not just an administrator, Lou has a background in events, working at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and most recently for D&AD. She should win awards for her organisation, planning and personal skills. We’re so pleased she’s found us! Lou lives in Salisbury and makes a mean Espresso Martini!
