2.6 Challenge Fund Raiser

The 2.6 challenge  –  Unity in the Test Valley
As you know and may well have experienced first-hand, the Covid-19 pandemic has had a catastrophic effect with the cancellation of thousands of events and the loss of billions in income through fundraising events. We know that many of you will need help if you’re to carry on delivering services during and beyond this awful pandemic. We want to help you and time for this opportunity is short. Please read on.
The 2.6 challenge
The 2-6 challenge is a national event being organised by the charity fundraisers, Just Giving and Virgin Money Giving. The idea is to encourage people to undertake challenges for charity, following the 2.6 theme. They collect the funds they raise via one of the platforms and then pass that on to the charity that they want to raise funds for.
What’s the 2.6 theme then?
Good question! The 2.6 Challenge can be any activity you like – from running 2.6 miles to holding an online workout with 26 of your friends. As long as the numbers 2 and 6 are involved, and you think the challenge will enthuse people to donate, then away you go! And whether your group undertakes the challenge itself or you enthuse your supporters to do so, all the funds raised will help your group to survive and flourish.
The snag
Yes, we know. There’s always a catch. The biggest one here is that the fundraising platforms seem to have bitten off the more than they can chew. We have been trying to register for a Unity charity page on Just Giving for several weeks and we still don’t know how much longer we have to wait.
If you want to start a charity page of your own, you are of course welcome to try. You can find out everything you need to know by clicking here.
However, so that we can help you to get going with this as soon as possible, we’re pleased to announce that Romsey Rotary Club have come to the rescue. They have a Just Giving page and are able to earmark all the funds that come into their page from the 2.6 challenge for Unity so that we, in turn, can share the funds between member groups that choose to participate.
How it works

  • Decide on a challenge (That might be fun in itself!)
  • Decide who’s going to take it on (you or your supporters)
  • Whoever is chosen (or press ganged!) to take it on, advertises that their doing it. (How will you help? What will you do to support them?)
  • IMPORTANT: When you and they are publicising their efforts and seeking donations, the following link is vital:

This ensures that donations are routed to Romsey Rotary Club for the benefit of Unity.

  • Unity will then share out the funds on an equitable basis between the groups and charities that have participated.

If you choose to take the challenge
You can find out more about the 2.6 challenge here. If you decide to give it a go, please let us know:

  • That you’re giving it go! (and which group you are of course ?)
  • Who’s taking on the challenge
  • What they’re doing
  • When the challenge is taking place

Get started now!
We really hope that your group will benefit from this display of Unity in the Test Valley. So, if you’re up for it, get started now!
Best wishes
The Unity Team
